I grew up in palm springs, ca there's been a long tradition of plein air in the coachella valley and i return to the desert to paint there as often as possible.I love desert and high deserts, and have had the pleasure to paint in ca, az, nm and nv.I paint plein air and studio, travel often and am an occasional instructor.Here's my blogwith plein air paintings
"Rock formation on lemon mountain tucson"For a number of years i was painting the arizona region around tucson at least once a year.This was an effort done up on mt.Lemon in 100+ degree heat and 2% humidity.Working plein air in tucson's extremely dry humidity makes watercolor a challenge.As it dries almost as fast as you thinking about picking up your brush.So i keep my paintings on the small size.Usually 10"X 14"On a 12"X 16"Arches watercolor block.The benefit is that watercolors can be handled immediately rather than my oil painting buddies who have to be careful not to mar the surface as they carefully pack finished works and transport them.Before going to the himalayas in 2007.I'd then cut my finished paintings off the block and insert them into theArchival sleeves.Fold over the flap to seal it.And bingo.Protected.Archival.And easy to handle, show, store, and transport!
